Desperate BCCI plans corporate cricket foray

Even as the cancellation of the tour of Pakistan, the two England ODIs and the postponement of the Champions League have led the BCCI to a revenue loss of Rs 122 crore, it is planning a new initiative.

The board is working out the modalities to organise a corporate cricket tournament where the total prize money will be Rs 2 crore and the winners will walk away with Rs 1 crore.

This puts in the shade the prize money for the Ranji Trophy, the premier domestic first-class tournament. Ranji winners this year will take home Rs 60 lakh.

“We have not firmed up the modalities yet. A committee is in place to look after the details and once they meet, the details will be worked out,” a BCCI official told HT.

The committee is led by Sanjay Jagdale and includes administrators such as KS Viswanathan, Ratnakar Shetty and Ranjib Biswal.
